Adaptemy distinguishes between curriculum and content. The curriculum includes concepts and the relationships between them, and different content is designed for each concept. The adaptive learning platform supports many different types of content that can be employed in a variety of settings, with multiple question types being produced from a generic question template.
Adaptemy uses curriculum-mapped content to allow teachers and learners to work towards their goals using a solution that aligns with the curriculum and provide personalised learning journeys that consider how the concepts relate to each other. By supporting different types of content, Adaptemy provides each user with a unique learning experience and allows the user to spend more time practicing on the system.
After students log in, they can view and select content from all topics or from one of the following strands: Statistics and Probability; Geometry and Trigonometry; Numbers; Algebra; Functions.
After selecting a topic (e. g. Decimals and Percentages), the student will see a list of concepts and their current grade in each.
Choosing “Recommended for You” will allow the student to complete activities that are part of Adaptemy’s recommended learning path based on their current skills. Alternatively, students can choose to explore other concepts and Adaptemy will suggest an activity and provide the relevant content. A map of each topic is provided in order to increase the student’s motivation illustrate the relationships between concepts. Each topic map contains the name of the concept, the student’s current grade, and the relationships between topics.
Looking at 2 concepts MuDiv (Multiplying and Dividing Decimals) and RTDeR (Recurring and Terminating Decimals, Rounding and Significant Figures) a student can observe that the MuDiv concept is not completed and that the knowledge from that concept is used in RTDeR, where the student got a C.
