For the 56,990 students around the country who sat their Leaving Cert exams last June, the wait was finally over as their results were released this morning. I received my own results only last year, and it is with those memories in mind that I congratulate everybody who sat the exams, particularly those who are satisfied with the outcome and preparing to celebrate with friends and family tonight. It’s important to point out that being unhappy with your results is common, but it’s not the end of the world – you are much more than a set of grades! Take a few days to consider your options, starting with the advice provided by CareersPortal, and decide on the best path for you.
2014 marked the introduction of Phase 3 of the Leaving Cert Project Maths curriculum and the third year in which bonus points were awarded to students who passed the higher level paper. 27 per cent of students sat the higher level maths exam in June, representing an increase of 10 per cent on 2013. 2,739 students who registered to sit the higher level paper chose to sit the ordinary level paper on the day, representing a drop-down rate of 16 per cent. The number of students sitting the higher level paper has increased by 74 per cent since 2011. Almost 96 per cent of these students achieved a D3 grade or higher and earned 25 bonus points.
Of the students who passed higher level maths, 3.9 per cent received an A1 grade, 6.3 per cent received an A2 grade, 8.1 per cent received a B1 grade, 9.6 per cent received a B2 grade, 11.3 per cent received a B3 grade, 11.6 per cent received a C1 grade, 11.1 per cent received a C2 grade, 10.6 per cent received a C3 grade, 9 per cent received a D1 grade, 7.3 per cent received a D2 grade, and 6.6 per cent received a D3 grade.
32,427 students sat the ordinary level maths paper in June, and 91.3 per cent of these candidates received a D3 grade or higher this morning. Of these students, 2 per cent received an A1 grade, 4.8 per cent received an A2 grade, 7.6 per cent received a B1 grade, 9.6 per cent received a B2 grade, 10.8 per cent received a B3 grade, 10.8 per cent received a C1 grade, 11 per cent received a C2 grade, 10.1 per cent received a C3 grade, 9.1 per cent received a D1 grade, 7.6 per cent received a D2 grade, and 7.9 per cent received a D3 grade.
